HOLY COMMUNION

COMMUNION WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT I

Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.

John 6:56 NIV

The Greek word for " remains" as used in the passage is "Meno" meaning to abide, in reference to a place, to sojourn, tarry not depart, to continue to be present. God created the first man and placed him in a garden, when He recreated us new from the second and last Adam, He placed us in Jesus and Jesus in us.

The Greek word for "eat" as used in the passage is "Phago" meaning to engulf. Just as phagocytes live inside us, engulf and devour pathogens, the Lord also wants us to live in him and feed on his flesh. He wants us to be voracious for his flesh.

Just as we take pills and have faith that the small pieces of solid medicine will work, the same way, once we receive communion we have faith that the life of Jesus is continually in us. That is a life of " even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil for You are with me", the life of " the Lord is my shepherd I shall not lack, "No weapon fashioned against me shall prosper", the life that makes us faithful to his commandments.

This is why David said "In Your name they rejoice all day long, And in Your righteousness they are exalted. For You are the glory of their strength, And in Your favor our horn is exalted". (Ps 89:16‭-‬17) . Let's develop consciousness of this new life we have in Christ Jesus.

COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT II

Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.” - John 6:27

In Deuteronomy 8:3 Moses said

"He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord .

In the text above, the Lord is telling us that though we are humans, our spirits are recreated, our new life is from Jesus, the second and last Adam. We are heavenly, not earthly and cannot survive without communion, that is intimate communication with the Holy Spirit .

Mark 2:22 says "And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; if he does, the wine will burst the skins, and the wine is lost and the bottles destroyed; but new wine is to be put in new (fresh) wineskins"

We should look beyond the flesh and think about our spirit, how he hungers and is starved without his food, the body of Jesus. That is why we are tossed around like chaff before the wind of the enemy because our spirit is starved,weak.

Man is a spirit, and we are gods, children of most high, we don't live by bread alone. Just as we nourish our flesh with earthly food, we also should Nourish our spirits with the flesh of Jesus.

COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT III

This is the Bread that came down from heaven. It is not like the manna which our forefathers ate, and yet died; he who takes this Bread for his food shall live forever.

John 6:58 AMPC

When we receive the body of Christ, we are transfigured into our real nature, the nature of Christ, "Immortal". If our Spiritual eyes are opened to see how bright we shine when we receive the body of Jesus, we will be taking it every day.

Brothers and sisters, we are new beings, chosen breeds, God's own oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor, glory, uprightness, justice, excellence and greatness-Isaiah 61:3

To show we are not just eating ordinary bread, during the last supper, the same bread Jesus blessed and gave us which we eat and He remains in us, He also gave judas who ate a bit and Satan entered into him and took possession of him. The Lord said to him after the piece of bread “What you do, do quickly.”Jn 13:27

We are not ordinary, we have to be conscious of who we are. 1 John 3:2 says "Now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he. In

1 Jn 4:17, the Bible says "as He is so we are in this world"

COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IV

Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.

- John 6:57 NIV

Amos 3:3 said "Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?

Brothers and sisters, God made us associates of his divine nature, how can we be associates if we cannot hear each other, how can we be joint heirs with Christ if we cannot stay in communion with him.

Remember, we are the body of Christ, the bone of his bone, the flesh of his flesh. Ephesians 5:29 says "For no man ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and carefully protects and cherishes it, as Christ does the church,"

So, through communion Christ nourishes us spiritually and protects us, for we receive his divine nature, body, blood, soul and divinity. We receive the life of God in our spirit, eternal life, through this, we take part in divine life for human life profits nothing. (Jn 6:63)

COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT V

For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink - John 6:55 NIV

In Matthew 4:4 ,The Lord told satan

"‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God". That is why satan does not want us to hear the word of God.

The word "comes" as used in the verse above shows that it is an ongoing thing, the words that proceed not proceeded. That means the new man recreated in the image and likeness of God must live in fellowship or in communion with God. That is our real food and drink.

Psalms 84:2 says "My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord ; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God". The new man is recreated in union with Christ, that is, in a way that we have nowhere else to live except in God and God has no resting place except in us. Anything outside this relationship is like fish out of water.

Man is a spirit being, and as children of God, needs to participate in the spiritual realm. Through the body and blood of Jesus we grow in our spiritual senses and muscles needed to partake in his divine nature . As newborn babies, we need to develop our Spiritual sense of sight, smell, hear, taste.

COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT VI

SPIRITUALLY ENHANCED SPECIES🔥

So Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you cannot have eternal life within you. - John 6:53 NLT

Ephesians 2:10 says "For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Recently in the news, China conducted human testing on some group of soldiers with the hope of developing soldiers with enhanced capabilities. If those scientifically enhanced soldiers can have such capabilities, how about God's masterpiece, enhanced in Jesus powered by the Spirit of him who created the world?

A masterpiece is a work done with extraordinary skills, every piece or detail of a masterpiece is very important. We are made uin the image and likeness of God, so every piece or detail in our lives reflect God's glory, splendor and virtues. Every manufacturer puts their best product on display. Just as the capabilities of those enhanced soldiers are known through trials, so also God displays his splendor in us through trials. That is why we need to stand strong in trials.

John 1:14 says "we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. Through Holy Communion, we are enhanced by his grace. Grace is the favor of God that gives us the capabilities, the strength to do what we cannot do, hear or see with our human strength. If the world sees the Chinese enhanced soldiers as a security risk, how does the enemy see God's masterpiece, God's blood children on the same earth with him?

COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT VII

For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” - John 6:33 NIV

The Lord said "“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. (Matthew 6:22) The eye regulates the motion of the body, if one is blind, body movement is restricted.

Man's spiritual eyes need to be good so as to discern spiritual realities and receive brevelational knowledge from God. Holy communion heals spiritual blindness. In Emmaus, the Lord revealed himself after resurrection to two of his disciples through breaking of bread.[Lk 24:30-31]

We are one spirit with God and are set apart in the Lord. We need to receive revelational knowledge from God so as to live a pure and holy life. That is why the Lord said "Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth" - John 17:17 .

We get bitten when we don't stay in our path of purity. Remember the enemy is the ruler of the darkness, but we are not in darkness, but in light. Psalms 119:9 says "How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word".

COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT VIII

For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes - 1 Corinthians 11:26 NIV

We like our anniversaries, birthdays, to be celebrated, we even do memorial service for our beloved dead, how about Christ, how does He feel when we celebrate the memorial of his passion? Remember He said “do this in memory of me.” Luke 22:19

Our opening text tells us that "whenever we eat this bread and drink this cup, we proclaim the Lord’s death" that means we are telling God that He paid for our sins by the death of his son, so that whatever we suffer because of our sins, we have conquered by his death.

Through Holy communion, we are reaffirming our faith in our baptism, for in Romans 6:4, when Christ died, we died and we are raised to a new life with him. John 5:24 says we have crossed over from death to life. Romans 8:2 tells us that the law of Spirit of life has made us free from the law of sin and death. Lots of mysteries!

COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IX

And He said to them, I have earnestly and intensely desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; - Luke 22:15 AMPC

1 Corinthians 6:19 states that "Your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own"

In Matthew 21:12, The Lord entered his temple and drove those buying and selling.. This is what happens when we receive holy

Communion. The Lord enters his temple, his house and decorates it how He wants.That is why we call him our Lord because He owns us, we don't own ourselves, we were only bought with a price - 1 Cor 6:20

So, when we receive communion, Christ lives in us. Just as in In Matthew 21:12, He cleanses us, sanctifies and detoxifies us. Obadiah 1:17 tells us that "On Mount Zion there shall be deliverance, and it shall be holy; and the house of Jacob shall possess its possessions". And psalm 125:3 says "the scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the land of the righteous, lest the righteous stretch forth their hands to iniquity and apostasy.

This explains why in our opening verse, the Lord showed so much willingness to institute the Holy communion. This season of Advent, Are we ready to surrender our hearts to Jesus in holy communion ?

We pray for the grace to surrender our hearts today to Jesus in holy communion to the glory of God the Father in Jesus name Amen!

COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT X

Mark my words—I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father’s Kingdom.” - Matthew 26:29 NLT

The beauty of the Holy Communion is that we celebrate in heaven with God in the company of angels. We eat at the altar of the Most High- the Holy of Holies (Heb 10:19)

Col 1:13 tells us that "God has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son." Also in Ephesians 2:6. " God raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus."

Remember we live in Christ and Christ lives in us. That is why The Lord said in our opening verse "I will not drink wine again until the day I drink it new with you in my Father’s Kingdom.” We are now in his father's kingdom and are not celebrating this memorial sacrifice alone. Let's be conscious of these mysteries.

COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT XI

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.- II Cor 13:14

Isaiah 32:15 says "until at last the Spirit is poured out on us from heaven. Then the wilderness will become a fertile field, and the fertile field will yield bountiful crops." The life of man is dry, empty and worths nothing without the communion, the sharing together, and participation in the Holy Spirit.

The Lord called the Holy Spirit our " Helper", "Advocate" He said "it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you. - John 16:7

Our new life is united with Jesus. 1 Cor 6:17 says that "he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him". Eating the body and blood of our Lord Jesus, guarantees continual stay, union, and fellowship of the Holy Spirit.

Let us make it a joyful duty to build our relationship with the Holy spirit for in his presence is fullness of joy and pleasures. That is why the Bible says " The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; yes, I have a good heritage". Psalm 16:6

COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT XII

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to the disciples and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” - Matthew 26:26 NKJV

The Greek word for "take" as used in the passage is " Lambano" meaning to seize, lay hold of . This kind of take is not the kind you take and put aside,rather the kind you take and make it your own, possess it and use it. He said eat. As we discussed earlier, the Greek word for "eat" as used in our text is "phago" meaning to engulf, devour. So the Lord said take, engulf, devour, He wants us to make it an indispensable necessity.

Brothers and sisters, we are not ordinary, in the past the Israelites offered different sacrifices to be at peace with God ( See Lev 6&7) They have sin , guilt, peace offerings etc. Yet none of those could give life. Now God has given us eternal life through his Son.

1john 5:11 says "this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. And in John 5:26, the bible says For as the Father has life in Himself, so He "has granted the Son to have life in Himself"

So eternal life is God kind of life, this God kind of life He has given us, He said "TAKE EAT THIS IS MY BODY"
